The decree will allow Ferrous to compulsorily acquire the required right-of-way along its planned pipeline route within the state of Minas Gerais. Ferrous intends to acquire land along the pipeline route and/or to negotiate rights-of-way, in each case through negotiation with individual landowners. However, the decree provides for expropriation, administrative easement and temporary occupancy, if necessary for the construction of the pipeline.
The pipeline has a planned length of approximately 400 km, and will be constructed in two stages. The pipeline is to have an initial capacity of 25 MMt/a, which will then be ramped up to 50 MMt/a. The pipeline will be constructed in a 30 m wide right-of-way. Ferrous plans to construct interlinking pipelines from Esperança and Serrinha to the main hub at Viga.
Ferrous CEO Mozart Litwinski said “The company is making excellent progress on its planned development of the Viga mine, pipeline infrastructure and port as it moves towards becoming a major iron ore producer.”
