‘X-Streamly’ good deepwater gas pipeline design

‘X-Streamly’ good deepwater gas pipeline design In his keynote paper presented at the Offshore Technology Conference in 1998, Professor Andrew Palmer introduced ‘a radical alternative approach to the design and construction of pipelines in deep water’. Here, Pipelines International looks at the DNV’s recent realisation of this concept.

The essential elements of risk assessment

The essential elements of risk assessment As the desire for more robust pipeline risk management grows, so too does the need for superior risk assessment. A formal risk assessment provides the structure to increase understanding, reduce subjectivity, and ensure that important considerations are not overlooked. Associated decision-making is therefore more consistent and reliable when formal techniques are used.

New concept may herald pipeline cost reductions

New concept may herald pipeline cost reductions Mon, 23 January 2012 DNV has developed a new pipeline concept called X-Stream that can significantly reduce the cost of a deep- and ultra-deepwater gas pipeline while still complying with the strictest safety and integrity regime.

PRCI discusses 2012 research programme

PRCI discusses 2012 research programme Thu, 19 January 2012 The 2012 Pipeline Research Council International research programme has been initiated following meetings of its Pipeline Technical Committees.

Dealing with fractures and landslides

The recent issue of the Journal of Pipeline Engineering contains five scientific papers dealing with a number of aspects of pipeline engineering design. Here Pipelines International highlights three of these, two of which deal with fracture mechanics and propagation, and one which looks at the problems of landslides and the risk assessment process that can be applied to this situation.

PRCI releases 2012 research programme Fri, 2 December 2011 Pipeline Research Council International has announced its 2012 research programme at its September 2011 meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

From the editor

From the editor It could have sounded like one of those old jokes: “An Englishman, an Irishman, and a Scotsman met up together and…” But in this case, it was a President of NACE International, a President of PRCI, a Secretary General of EPRG, and a number of high-level subsea pipeline industry representatives, and it wasn’t a joke.

Global pipeline research discussed at 18th JTM

Global pipeline research discussed at 18th JTM Thu, 16 June 2011 The Pipeline Research Council International hosted the 18th biennial Joint Technical Meeting on Pipeline Research on 16–20 May 2011 in San Francisco, California.

Recommending pipeline excellence: EPRG

Formed in 1972, the European Pipeline Research Group is a registered association of European pipe manufacturers and gas transmission companies. The group's recommendations have contributed to the improvement of pipeline practices worldwide and, in conjunction with two other associations, it continues to strive toward developing safer and more efficient pipelines.
