Built by IOC at a cost of $US61.8 million, the pipeline has the capacity to transport 1.45 MMt/a of petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG and aviation turbine fuel from Chennai to Bangalore.

IOC Chairman B M Bansal said “In the second phase, we will increase the carrying capacity to 2 MMt/a.”

Approximately 96 km of the pipeline will run through Tamil Nadu, with 111 km extending through Andhra Pradesh, and the remaining 83 km through Karnataka. The pipeline passes through Kundaliya Wildlife Sanctuary and the royal elephant reserve under the Tekumanda and Palamaner reserve forests in Chittoor district.
