The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria has awarded a $US171 million contract to Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company for the construction of a gas pipeline.
The approximately 90 km pipeline will transport 250 Mcf/d of gas from the Utorogu, Adibawa and Agbada fields, which are operated by SPDC, to the domestic gas network owned and operated by the Nigerian Gas Company.
SPDC supplies 75 per cent of the Nigerian gas market, and the new pipeline is intended to increase its capacity to supply gas to power stations and other consumers.
Construction of the pipeline is scheduled to start in mid-May, and the project is expected to be completed by late 2011.
