Colombia’s state-owned Ecopetrol has earmarked $US735 million to upgrade its pipeline assets as part of the company’s $US6.93 billion investment plan announced for 2010.
Ecopetrol plans to boost capacity of the Pozos – Galan system from 18 MMbbl/d of oil to 60 MMbbl/d of oil, and to improve the Transandino Pipeline.
The 500 km Pozos – Galan oil and gas pipeline system links the Colombian cities of Santa Marta and Barrancabermeja.
The Transandino Pipeline runs 310 km from Orito to Tumaco in Colombia and was commissioned in 1969.
Ecopetrol has said that the upgrades are intended to strengthen the company’s capacity to meet local demand.
