Leighton International’s 130 m long pipelay vessel, the Leighton Eclipse, has laid the final lines of an 80 km pipeline section for Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC’s) $US750 million Pipeline Replacement Project 2 (PRP-2) in the Mumbai High field, located about 180 km off the coast of Mumbai.
This is the second season of work that Leighton has carried out as part of the PRP-2 project.
The PRP project consists of laying over 220 km of 6–24 inch diameter pipelines, both rigid and flexible, along with pipeline crossings, risers, topsides modifications and testing and pre-commissioning activities in the Mumbai High field.
Eclipse will return to the field for pipelaying and other activities as part of Leighton’s third season on the project in 2010–11.
Leighton’s contract with ONGC for the construction of offshore pipelines in India was signed in March 2008 and work on the project commenced in November 2009.
