Valued at approximately $US6.1 million, the scope of works covered by the contract includes acoustic inspection of all trunk and infield subsea pipelines off the west coast of India offshore Mumbai, India. The total length of pipelines to be inspected under the contract is approximately 5,400 km.

The project will involve deployment of multibeam echosounder, side scan sonar, pinger profile along with Fugro’s Starfix DGPS system to map the pipeline assets. Subsequently, a remotely operated towed vehicle will be deployed to inspect the trunk pipelines in more detail. Fugro’s survey vessel Flambouyan will also be mobilised for the project. To complete the inspection work a remotely operated vehicle will be deployed to perform detailed inspection of critical pipeline sections.

This type of survey is carried out at five-year intervals by ONGC for monitoring of the integrity of pipelines.

The work will be carried out from mid-September 2010 to March 2011, following the monsoon season.
