Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has been conducting a survey to build a new LPG pipeline, which will link the cities of Pondicherry and Karaikal in India, according to Pondicherry Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam.
If constructed, the pipeline will provide gas supply to consumers in both regions and cover a distance of approximately 130 km.

Mr Vaithilingham said that if the new Pondicherry – Karaikal pipeline is placed in service, GAIL will supply additional gas to the power station at Karaikal, increasing power generation from 32 MW to 112 MW.
