Mon, 9 August 2010
The proposed 1,700 km Gujarat – Orissa Natural Gas Pipeline is expected to be completed by 2014, with bids to construct the pipeline opening this week, local media sources have reported.
“The union government will invite bids for the Gujarat – Orissa pipeline within a week and the process will continue for a minimum of six months. The winning company will be given 36 months to execute the project,” Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) Chairman L.Mansingh has said.
Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL), the gas distribution subsidiary of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), will operate the pipeline, which will run from Surat in Gujarat to Paradip in Orissa.
Passing through Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, the pipeline will have five spur lines, totalling 124 km in length, and its endpoint will be the Indian Oil Corporation's 15 MMt/a refinery at Paradip.
The Gujarat – Orissa pipeline will require an investment of around $US1 billion.
