Khatam Ol Anbia to construct Phase II of IP Pipeline
Thu, 26 August 2010
Iranian firm Khatam Ol Anbia will construct the second phase of the Iran–Pakistan (IP) Pipeline project, the country’s Mehr News Agency has reported.
According to the report, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Khatam Ol Anbia have reached an agreement regarding the construction of a 270 km section of pipeline.
Phase I of the IP Pipeline was put into operation in July 2010.
The pipeline, which extends approximately 900 km from the Assaluyen gas field in southwest Iran to Iranshahr in the southeast, has a transmission capacity of 750 MMcm/a of natural gas.
Originally envisaged as the Iran – Pakistan – India Pipeline, New Delhi did not participate in the later stages of negotiations regarding the project due to security concerns. However, after suspending talks for more than two years, the Indian Government is planning to hold a bilateral meeting in Tehran to discuss the IP Pipeline.
