The 97 km Nembe Creek Pipeline, which transports crude oil from the Bonny export terminal to Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, is nearing completion according to the pipeline’s developer Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.
Once commissioned the pipeline will transport 600,000 bbl/d of oil. Currently half of the line has been commissioned.
The pipeline collects crude from 14 oil pumping stations and is part of a programme to replace ageing pipelines in the Niger River delta.
Meanwhile Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke has unveiled a three-step action plan aimed at ensuring that all power plants billed to come on stream in the future get adequate gas supply to fire them.
The Minister listed the three-step action plan to include immediate delivery of gas projects, consolidation of end-to-end connection of gas pipelines and expansion of pipelines with emphasis on the Ob-Ob and the Escravos-Lagos link.
