Covering a total distance of 1,387 km, Gasene is the longest pipeline that has been constructed in Brazil in the past ten years.

The pipeline will transport natural gas produced in Southeast Brazil, imported from Bolivia, or regasified at the Guanabara Bay LNG terminal, to the Northeastern states.

Construction work on the integration pipeline was divided into three sections: a 130 km section from Cacimbas to Vitória, a 303 km section from Cabiúnas to Vitória, and a 954 km section extending from Cacimbas to Catu. Construction on the first two sections have begun commercial operations. The third and longest section completed construction in March 2010, and is expected to go on stream in the near future.

Measuring 28 inches in diameter, the pipeline was built as part of the Growth Acceleration Program (GAP) .The pipeline has an initial capacity of 10 MMcm/d, with the option to increase capacity by installing additional compressor stations.
