Pipeline: the most economic transportation for Peru slurry
Wed, 23 December 2009
The construction of a slurry pipeline from Peruvian company Cuervo Resources’ proposed Cerro Ccopane Iron Ore Project to the Peruvian coast has been found to be the most economic according to a study by Sandwell Engineering.
The study recommended that a slurry pipeline from the Cerro Ccopane project, which is located 65 km south of Cuzco, to the Pacific tidewater port at Matarani Departmento Arequipa would be the best method of transportation of the slurry produced.
The port is located approximately 320 km from the the project.
Cuervo Resources Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian Berner said “Pipelines are economical, reliable, and can traverse difficult terrain. Slurry pipelines have proven to be a success in many parts of the world, including a 400 km long iron ore pipeline that has been in operation in Brazil for over 30 years.”
The report has also recommended that further studies should include additional port studies at Matarani and linking future mineral processing studies with future transportation evaluations.
