Port Dolphin granted approval to construct LNG project pipeline
Thu, 10 December 2009
Port Dolphin Energy has been issued a certificate of public necessity and convenience from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to build and operate an onshore pipeline to connect to its deepwater LNG port off the West Coast of Florida, the United States.
Located 45 km off Tampa Bay, Port Dolphin’s new deepwater port will deliver natural gas through a subsea pipeline to onshore facilities that interconnect with the Gulfstream Natural Gas System and Tampa Electric Company respectively, at locations approximately 6 km and 9 km inland in Manatee County, Florida.
The LNG will be returned to a gaseous state and fed into the pipeline to serve residential, commercial, industrial and electrical generation customers primarily in Florida and the south-eastern United States.
“The prompt action by FERC confirms our belief that this project will provide increased energy security to Florida, where additional supplies will be needed,” said Port Dolphin Energy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Butcher.
Last month, the US Maritime Administration and US Coast Guard gave approval to the Port Dolphin project.
