Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has paid an official visit to Ankara to sign several energy agreements with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, including a contract regarding the construction of the 550 km Samsun – Ceyhan Oil Pipeline.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin told journalists that approximately $US3 billion will be invested in the construction of the Samsun – Ceyhan pipeline, which is currently being built by Turkey’s Calik Energy and Eni of Italy.

Mr Medvedev said the construction of the pipeline, with a planned capacity of 1.2–1.4 MMbbl/d, remains one of the top priorities for the two states. The pipeline, which will run parallel to the Baku – Tbilisi – Ceyhan Pipeline, will extend from the Black Sea city of Samsun to the Mediterranean city of Ceyhan in Turkey’s south.
