Presently, 4,000 experts and workers, as well as 1,657 units of heavy machinery are engaged in the construction of the pipeline system. A main compressor station is being built on Sakhalin Island, while medium-pressure gas laterals, including a line from Vladivostok to Russky Island, are being constructed.
The overall project is being constructed in phases. The first will involve the construction of 1,350 km of pipeline, which will have a capacity of 6 Bcm/a. The second phase will extend the pipeline length to approximately 1,800 km and the pipeline capacity to 30 Bcm/a.
The system will supply gas to consumers of the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krais, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast and the Sakhalin Oblast. The gas will be sourced from Sakhalin I project in the mid-term.
Gazprom aims for the system to deliver first gas by 2011.
