NDT Global releases video guide for enhanced ultrasonic inspection
NDT Global has released a video guide to its new enhanced sizing methodology for ultrasonic crack inspections.
Ultrasonic crack inspection is a process that provides data about the size and location of flaws in an asset before permanent damage occurs by sending out an ultrasonic pulse and monitoring the reflections to receive a surface and crack echo.
The enhanced methodology builds on this process and allows inspections to be carried out at depths greater than 4 mm; it was developed while NDT Global experts were investigating previously unconsidered reflections.
By testing these reflections to API Standard 1163 – the inline inspection systems qualification – the team was able to better understand the relationship between the reflections and the depth of the features.
The video guide features NDT Global Manager of UC Data Analysis Rogelio Guajardo, who explains the implications of the new methodology, the evolution of crack depth sizing, the development, modelling and validation of the enhanced methodology.
